Universal Columns
Universal Columns, also known as I-columns or H-columns, are another type of structural steel member commonly used in construction and engineering projects. Similar to universal beams, universal columns have a vertical "I" or "H" shape and are designed to support heavy vertical loads in building and infrastructure frameworks. These columns consist of a vertical web sandwiched between horizontal flanges at the top and bottom. The flanges provide resistance to bending moments, while the web helps distribute the load along the length of the column. Universal columns are often used in conjunction with universal beams to create stable and robust structural systems. Just like universal beams, universal columns come in various sizes and dimensions to accommodate different load requirements and structural designs. They are typically made from materials such as structural steel or other high-strength alloys to ensure strength and durability. Engineers and architects select universal columns based on factors such as load-bearing capacity, span length, and the overall structural design to ensure the safety and stability of the construction project.
